Augmented supersweet (sh2) bicolour hybrid for the Fresh market.
Maturity:
Early maturing variety that can be harvested at 85 days after planting (Southern Africa conditions apply). The date of harvesting may vary by as much as 10 days between early and late seasons planting. This needs to be taken into consideration when planning planting schedules under different growing conditions. Early maturing approximately 75 - 85 days after planting. This will vary by as much as 10 days between winter and summer plantings. For accurate planning heat units should be monitored.
Plant Characteristics:
Very large and robust plants with exceptional seedling vigour, with an average plant height of 2.1m. Ears are positioned 60 - 70 cm above the ground. A plant population of 50,000 - 55,000 plants/hectare is optimal for summer plantings. Plant population will influence ear size.
Ear Characteristics:
Very cylindrical and uniform ears with an average length of 16 - 18 cm and a diameter of 50 mm with 16 kernel rows. Kernel depth is typically 12 mm. Kernel colour is a deep golden yellow.
Disease Resistance:
IR: local Rust strains (Ps) and Northern Corn leaf Blight (Et).

APOLLO produces very uniform, cylindrical ears with good colour differentiation. Strong adaptable plants make APOLLO an excellent choice for summer and winter production areas. The eating quality is excellent due to the augmented endosperm and soft pericarp. The uniform growth habit means a relatively short harvest window.
