The north of Namibia is a vast, dry region, but it is also home to a group of dedicated vegetable producers. Starke Ayres has a strong interest in the area and hosted an information day for this group in September 2022. The event took place on the grounds of the Sachsenheim Guest Farm near Etosha National Park and the aim was to introduce growers to new products and to update them on how these crops have performed locally.
A wide variety of crops are grown in the region, including cabbage, tomato, onion, carrot and beetroot. Product managers Heinrich Klein and John Herbert introduced new varieties to the producers and facilitated discussions on aspects of production and marketing. Growers related their experiences of growing and selling the products and very useful insights were shared.
These discussions continued well after the formal presentations ended! Another focal point was a display of the Kombat range of pest-control products, presented by sales personnel Chandre Horn and Bonita Rabe. Discussions took place around the effective use of these products and for the control of common and serious pests such as cutworm, termites and stalk borer.
Various plant-nutrient products were also displayed and generated significant interest among the visitors.
Thanks are due to Starke Ayres Namibia managing director Charles Krone and his team for organising a very successful meeting. All attendees agreed that a lot of useful information was freely shared and that more information days should be held in the future.
