The all-new big red cabbage adaptable for production right through the year, RUBY KING has been trialled in Gauteng, North West, Free State, Cape Peninsula and KwaZulu-Natal areas as C725 and performed very well against opposition varieties. It is a fast-maturing variety with a head size of between 1.3 and 2.2kg. In summer, from transplant to maturing, takes from 70 to 80 days. In winter, its growth is a bit slower, and can start harvesting from 80 to 100 days after transplant, depending on temperature and area.
RUBY KING is a round, medium-head red cabbage with good internal quality, which is perfect for the fresh and prepack markets. It showed good heat tolerance and above-average black rot resistance in the field.
