On 1-3 March 2024, the Obaro Inter Unie event was hosted by Sediba Kwele in Brits. This event offers a unique opportunity for new generation farmers to meet and interact with contemporaries, make new contacts and take a short break from the pressures of farming. The event involved 19 teams of 10 members each from various agricultural unions competing in a series of activities over 2 days.

Various trophies were presented for the different categories and competition was fierce but friendly.

Activities included rip rugby, tug of war, zipline paintball, archery, axe throwing, fire-making, rowing, raft construction and many more. Festivities started on the Friday with the prize-giving on Saturday evening. By this time all participants were in need of some relaxation with top-class entertainment provided by singing sensation Fatman.

One of the most coveted awards is the Spirit Cup. This is awarded to the team showing the most initiative and spirit over the 2 days. The Ohrigstad Farmers Association were the defending holders from 2023 but lost the title to team Brits Skou Perde representing the Brits Young Farmers Association. Team Brits Buite Perde from the same association won the overall title so there was clearly a degree of home ground advantage! The prize money will be used towards upgrading their farmers hall and for contributions to local community charities.
This event was a great success and helps build morale amongst the farming community. We hope that the 2025 version will be even bigger. Starke Ayres plays a significant role in the South African agricultural community and are proud to be associated with this event. As co-sponsors of team Skou Perde from Brits, we look forward to next year.
