New Dawn Seedling Services is a flourishing seedling growing enterprise based in Luanshya, a town in Zambia’s Copperbelt Province. This nursery is focused on the supply of top-quality vegetable seedlings to local farmers and home gardeners. A wide range of crops is offered and includes tomato, cabbage, onion, and pepper. The nursery was established in 2018 by Anderson Chansa after he identified a local need for a consistent source of good quality seedlings. His motivation comes from satisfying customer needs and he sums this up : "I love what I do because I know that I am contributing to food security and income generation for many people. I always make sure that my seedlings are healthy and disease-free, and that they are delivered on time and at affordable prices". Ayres’ Accelerating Rural Access To Improved Seeds (ARATIS) Project have all contributed to the success he enjoys. He was one of the recipients of a mini seedling tunnel that started the business and it has grown from there. He has been using Starke Ayres seed from the outset and highlights the reliability, adaptability and general performance that he experiences with the products. He states “the wide range of crop varieties, including the popular Trinity tomato has been a game-changer for me. My customers are continually impressed by the quality and taste of the produce from my seedlings”. Future plans for the nursery include an expansion of capacity and the range of seedlings offered.
